Well here it is, the start of World United FC! Through this blog, I will share my thoughts on the current state of the beautiful game from around the world. I'll not only be covering my thoughts of soccer around the world and will also potentially bring some inside information on different topics. As a little introduction, I'll be writing about why I support a club that is over 2,400 miles away...
If you follow me on Twitter (@SSFC_Rumors), you might already know a few things about me. Born in France but living in Ohio, yet I support a club based in a state I actually have yet to visit (I've gone to 19 States...plus Puerto Rico). You might also know I'm an Arsenal supporter...
It all began on a cold rainy October night, leaves falling from trees, sweaters being unearthed from closets, snow just around the corner...jokes aside. In October 2008, the Seattle Sounders FC announced the signing of Freddie Ljungberg. A former Arsenal great who was part of The Invincibles and was also the captain of the Swedish national team. Looking more into the team through its Wikipedia page, I noticed that they had signed two other players, American goalkeeper great Kasey Keller and a Frenchman. What?! A fellow Frenchman playing soccer in the United States? Pretty sweet.

The Day It All Began - October 28, 2008 |
Sebastien Le Toux and Freddie Ljungberg are the reasons why I became a Sounders supporter. Yes, as simple as that. Since then, they've signed top internationals in Tyrone Marshall (Jamaica), Jarrod Smith (New Zealand), Blaise Nkufo (Switzerland), Alvaro Fernandez (Uruguay), Mauro Rosales (Argentina), Gonzalo Pineda (Mexico), Djimi Traore (Mali), and Marco Pappa (Guatemala), among others. The Seattle Sounders FC is a true melting pot of players.
Since being announced as an MLS Expansion team in 2008, Seattle has played 6 seasons in MLS and has won five major honors and have come close a couple more times. From Keller to Stefan Frei, Ljungberg to Clint Dempsey, Le Toux to Obafemi Martins, the team has steadily become a powerhouse in the United States and across North America.

Trophy #5 of 5...but many more to come! |
I used to blog about all Sounders related news such as transfers, rumors, trades, trialists, and more. I own scarves and shirts, I regularly post comments on Sounders FC sites (check out my favorite), I somewhat have a large following on my Sounders related Twitter (second time I've inserted this as a plug?), and I've met some pretty incredible people through Twitter (such as local, current, and former players, fans, and coaches). Maybe more on that in a future post..
One thing that's missing though, a trip Seattle to attend MLS, USL, PDL, and Academy games (need to plan that just right..). Not sure when that will happen but definitely in the near future (2017...2018 World Cup?).
Thanks to one of my followers @bobbyhumphrey5 for recommending me to start off this blog with this story. Leave a comment down bellow as to what I should write about next.
Which season so far has been your favorite and why? And come visit Seattle SOON!
ReplyDelete2014 would be the easy answer but I think 2011 was also quite spectacular. Third USOC trophy and 2nd in Shield race. QF of CCL as well!
